Apply your normal security review process to any AI assisted code. Use static analysis tools, secure coding checklists, and internal security guidelines. Never let AI handle production secrets directly in the prompt.
- Lack of performance and resource awareness
The model does not know your performance constraints. It may propose:
- Solutions that are easy to read but inefficient at scale.
- Excessive calls to external services.
- Inefficient database queries that work on small test data and fail in production.
Good practice:
Evaluate complexity and performance explicitly. Ask the AI to propose an alternative that optimises for speed or memory, then benchmark and profile yourself.
- Responsibility remains human
AI does not sign off on releases and does not carry legal or professional responsibility. If AI generated code fails in production, the accountability lies with the organisation and its engineers.
Practical guideline for this course
- Use AI to explore approaches, generate snippets, and accelerate boilerplate.
- Do not copy large blocks of code into production without review, testing, and documentation.
- Treat AI as a fast assistant that suggests possibilities, not as an authority.
